About Virginia Veterinary Specialists
At Virginia Veterinary Specialists, we’re a team of veterinarians with board certifications in internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, and oncology. Our team has been caring for the complex medical needs of Virginia's pets since 2010. Seeing a need for advanced care, our founders came together to bring specialized veterinary medicine to Charlottesville and the surrounding areas.
What is a Board-Certified Veterinarian?
A board-certified veterinary specialist must complete advanced training in various veterinary and surgical disciplines. Our veterinarians have completed at least four years of veterinary college, a one-year internship, and a three-year residency program in their specialty.
They have also passed rigorous examinations to officially become Diplomates in their specialty areas. This term—Diplomate—is the official name for a board-certified veterinary specialist.
All our veterinarians maintain Active Diplomate status. This means they are recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA) American Board of Veterinary Specialties as currently board-certified in their specialty area.
Working Together for Your Pet’s Health
As a privately-owned and operated practice, we collaborate every day; working closely together to evaluate and treat your pet's condition.
From complex orthopedic, neurologic, and soft tissue procedures to ultrasound, chemotherapy, endoscopy, CT scans, and echocardiography, our team has one goal in mind: to provide a positive outcome for you and your pet.
Our Patients
Our patients come to us by referral from their primary veterinarian. We work closely with your pet’s primary veterinarian to care for your cat's or dog’s health.
With our team of experts, your beloved pet is in the best hands.
Referring VeterinariansIf your pet is in need of specialized veterinary care, we invite you to contact us or talk with your veterinarian about a referral.
